Virg Unverferth received her bachelors in nursing at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska. She then received her masters in nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, where she later obtained her post master's certificate for APRN. She has practiced with the Nebraska Heart Institute Lincoln campus since 1993 and is certified as an acute care nurse practitioner.

She treasures time spent with her husband Mike and their two school age children. She is very involved in church, school, and community activities and relaxes by playing the piano.
